Sqirl is a joint I had passed many times on Virgil Avenue and wondered early on what was going on in the space. After reading some reviews and hearing some good things, we finally had the chance to check it out this past Saturday morning for breakfast.
Always busy, we went early to avoid the crowds, but got caught in an early morning rush nonetheless. Even with the queue, ordering at the counter was pretty painless and although the inside was full, we did manage to grab a seat outside on the patio, which was our plan anyway.
Food wise, I ordered the Crispy Kokuho Rose Brown Rice Salad which came delightfully flavored with lemongrass, mint, cilantro and ginger. I added “the works”-an egg and sausage added, for $11.00. Kevin on the other hand chose the Open Face Brioche Toast with kale, tomatillo Puree, lacto fermented hot sauce with a fried egg for $7.50. We both complimented our dishes with a coffee each, which was strong, smooth and flavorful!
Overall: The service was friendly and prompt, the food was impeccably flavored and seasoned with high quality ingredients and the atmosphere was clean and funky. We will definitely be heading back to Sqirl soon!
