Central City, Colorado

With a population hovering around 500, this former mining boom town turned near ghost town has seen, alongside neighboring Blackhawk, major investment as a gambling destination since the 1990s.  Situated in the Rocky Mountains some 45 minutes west of Denver, the town is full of charming old 19th century architecture and surrounded by mountainous vistas.

While the new investment may have been instrumental in putting the village on the map once again, the place seemed downright deserted to me, save the few gamblers going to and fro the various casinos, which have been mostly concealed in old storefronts and by joining many buildings together within.  We did notice they have a local production company and the treasure trove of architectural gems will certainly draw us back once again.
