Snow plants, which pop up in Yosemite following the melting of the snows in spring shine a bright red on the forest floor. Forgoing photosynthesis, they instead rely on a symbiotic relationship with underground fungi. These alien looking plants often find refuge in shady spots and even have the ability to glow in the dark!
